April Verrett, international president of the Service Employees International Union, spoke out against the Trump administration’s changes to Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and their impact on Haitian immigrants in the U.S. Between 39,000 and 41,500 people of Haitian descent live in Georgia, according to U.S. Census Bureau and demographic estimates. This ranks Georgia as having the fifth-highest Haitian population in the United States.
