Earlier this spring, the Old Farmer’s Almanac released its summer forecast, giving Georgians an idea of what to expect. On Wednesday, Farmers’ Almanac released its own predictions. Here’s what we know:

When does summer start?

The first day of summer is marked by the summer solstice, which is June 20 or 21 and occurs at the moment Earth’s tilt toward the Sun is at a maximum. This year’s is on June 21, but don’t be surprised if the summer-like conditions have already begun.

What does Farmers’ Almanac predict for summer in Georgia?

Farmers’ Almanac forecasts a “persistently hot,” humid summer with average precipitation and period thunderstorms for the southeast. Independence Day will likely be hot and dry. By August, weather patterns will become more volatile, with increased precipitation in most areas.

What does Old Farmer’s Almanac predict for summer in Georgia?

The Old Farmer’s Almanac forecasts a hotter-than-normal summer across much of the nation, especially in July and August. The top half of Georgia is looking at a hot and dry summer, while the bottom half will be hot and rainy. The southeast should watch out for a possible tropical storm in late June and a hurricane in mid-August.

How accurate is Farmer’s Almanac?

Whichever almanac you’re using, they use “secret” formulas that aren’t the most accurate. Reports of their chances vary, but it’s essentially a coin flip. Many experts say forecasts tend to be less accurate if they are 10 days or further out.

What does the National Weather Service predict for summer in Georgia?

National Weather Service provides seasonal, three month, long-range forecasts. The latest for May through July predict a 40-50% chance of higher-than-normal temperatures for south and parts of east Georgia. The rest of the state will be even hotter, with a 50-60% chance of higher-than-normal temps.

Will there be any rain to cool that heat? For south and east Georgia, there’s a 33-40% chance of above normal precipitation, while the rest are looking at an average amount.
