It’s officially fall in Georgia, but residents will have to wait a little longer for those crisp mornings that signal cooler weather is settling in.
The astronomical first day of fall is Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, at 8:04 p.m. EDT, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. The autumnal equinox marks the official start of astronomical fall in the Northern Hemisphere.
But the arrival of fall does not mean temperatures will immediately feel like fall.
For many parts of Georgia, the first morning with temperatures around 50 degrees or colder is not expected until October, according to AccuWeather’s current 2026 forecast.
When will fall in Georgia give us our first 50-degree morning?
The timing varies across the state, with North Georgia expected to cool down before central and coastal Georgia.
According to the current monthly AccuWeather forecast, these are the dates Georgia could see much cooler temps for the first time (exactly or close to 50 degrees):
- Atlanta: Oct. 9 (53 degrees)
- Athens: Oct. 9 (53 degrees)
- Macon: Sept. 26 (50 degrees)
- Augusta: Nov. 2 (53 degrees)
- Savannah: Nov. 2 (54 degrees)
- Blue Ridge: Sept. 25 (47 degrees)
These are extended forecast projections and can change as the dates get closer.
So while fall officially arrives in September, Georgia’s first truly chilly mornings are still several weeks away in many parts of the state.
