Republicans in Georgia are planning for a special legislative session to redraw the state’s boundaries for congressional and state legislative elections. Last time the lines were redrawn, state lawmakers looked to create more districts in order to protect Black Georgian’s voting power. This time, following the U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning a key part of the Voting Rights Act along with Republican control over the state’s legislature, the GOP could disenfranchise minority voters to potentially gain more political power.
