ICE mistakenly detains U.S. citizen at Atlanta airport

ICE presence at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport has reportedly increased, with recent cases involving both immigration arrests and a mistaken detention. A Venezuelan asylum-seeker was detained by ICE while attempting to fly home, while a U.S. citizen was briefly handcuffed after agents mistook him for an immigrant with the same name and birthday. The incidents come as ICE expands enforcement at airports nationwide, including arrests of people with expired visas who may have pending applications for asylum or other immigration relief.
