Cattle farmer and congressional candidate Shawn Harris (D-GA-14) is speaking out against the Trump administration’s recent decision to import roughly 660 million pounds of beef tariff-free in an effort to offset high grocery prices. Harris, along with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and other cattle farmers, argues that the policy is unlikely to lower prices for consumers because beef prices are largely controlled by meatpackers. Instead, they say the imports could drive down prices for domestic cattle producers and further hurt an already struggling U.S. cattle industry.
