Georgia town helps derail one of America’s largest proposed ICE detention centers

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin says the Trump administration backed away from plans to turn a warehouse in Social Circle, Georgia, into one of the nationโ€™s largest ICE detention centers because it “did not fit the communityโ€™s needs.” The proposed facility could have held up to 10,000 detainees, roughly twice the cityโ€™s population. Local officials and residents opposed the project over concerns about water, sewer capacity, emergency services and the lack of communication from federal officials.
